Doron Fishbein: “Scareflies”
by Dalit Nemirovsky | 05.05.14Solo Exhibition 8.5.14 – 14.6.14 | Exhibition opening: Thursday 8.5.14 on 20:00 at Artstation gallery
In his current exhibition, Fishbein presents oil paintings and video art in which he creates an imaginary visual surrounding that combines visual icons of Israeli reality, art history and other worlds. By different combinations, he creates a saying about the promises of the Israeli ethos and the fears that rise from the continuous meeting between this ethos and his subjective place.
Fishbein uses characteristics from the animal world or the visual psychology world and combines them with “Israeli” characteristics, thus creating some sort of scarecrows warning from danger; in order to create a threatening space, a contradiction in the promise that the physical, personal and cultural space pretend to fulfill.
Using a technique of oil on canvas, Fishbein presents works in a strict Surrealist Hyperrealism style, and other works in a Dadaist, Minimalism and Pop Art style.
Fishbein (b.1975) is a young artist who graduated from the Bezalel art department in 2012 and holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from the Technion. In the last two years he presented solo and group exhibitions in galleries in Israel as well as in art fairs in Israel and abroad. His works are included in established Israeli collections.
