A MILLION NEGATIVES

The winner of the Ophir Award (the Israeli Oscar award) for best documentary in 2012, was the remarkable film “Life in Stills”. The film tells the story of the special relationship between 96 year old Miriam and her grandson, Ben, as they join forces to save the shop Pri-Or Photo House (also known as the Zalmania) and its nearly one million negatives that document Israel’s defining moments.

Now, usually it’s the book and then the film. This time it’s the other way around.

For the past seven years Ian Sternthal – the owner of Sternhal Books has been filming Miriam in the Pri-Or PhotoHouse, as well as working to digitize the thousands of portraits that are housed in the shop in order to create ‘Zalmania’ – a book, an e-book, and a travelling exhibition.

To date he has scanned over 3,000 negatives, but in order to realize this project, he turned to Kickstarter to make this dream a reality.

Take a look at the project on Kickstarter – maybe you’ll wanna join to be a part of this dream.
