TEL AVIV MOMENT | PEACOCK

by Dalit Nemirovsky | 28.11.13

It was another Tuesday night and I was hanging out with friends at one of my favorite spots, the Peacock, when we got the news about the death of one of Israel’s most important cultural pivots – Arik Einstein.

You could immediately feel that everything changed. Shimon, the owner, took over the DJ stand and put on Einstein’s music, some people went out to talk on the phone, some cried and some just took another drink and drank to the memory of Einstein.

Peacock is one of the few places in Tel Aviv that have become an institution. It’s not a trend, it’s not going anywhere, and you know what you’re getting.  That is why when we heard the sad news – I’m glad I was there. It’s the kind of place that respects itself and therefore gave a lot of respect to the sudden death of a remarkable icon.

Cheers Arik – You will be missed.
